Yesterday afternoon, Air China's 3x weekly service between Shenzhen and Melbourne began. B-6115 had the honours of flying the route for the first time. After a very strange beginning its great to see the route finally materialise. Earlier this month, China Southern Airlines also began flights between Shenzhen and Melbourne which came out of no where, meaning in the space of a month, Melbourne went from no services to Shenzhen to 6x weekly flights operated by 2 different airlines. Air China now connects Melbourne to 3 different destinations which are all being flown by A330s. Although the lack of aircraft diversity with CA is disappointing, there's some very strong rumours that Shenzhen Airlines will be taking over this new route once they receive their A330s. 

Melbourne Airport is fairly quiet in the middle of the day so having this extra service operate during that period of time certainly livens up the regular traffic!
