This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Grounded in the belief that all kids have an insatiable appetite to understand their world, The Lighthouse School opened its doors 11 years ago to meet the needs of the inquiry-based learner. Founder Bill Keilty shares how this successful program evolved toward a model, while relying on technology that personalized learning for the individual and engaged a wide spectrum of talent. Bill Keilty, Ed.D., graduated from the University of St. Thomas with his master’s in curriculum and instruction in gifted education. He completed his doctorate from the University of St. Thomas in educational leadership. He designed and implemented and directed the Lighthouse Program in Spring Lake Park Schools. This unique program is now a school serving over 100 students, ages 6-18 from across the metro area. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
