While visiting our family in Calgary, Alberta, we explored Banff and nearby Lake Louise and even a horse jumping competition. Alberta is the heart of Canada's cowboy culture with the plains being back-splashed by the majestic Rocky Mountains carving the horizon. This area has been populated for a very long time before the Europeans came by Canada's First Nations. Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump by the Blood Reserve in Southern Alberta is an example of a past where the cliffs were used to kill bison that were used by families for meat, and other parts were cleverly used for tools and clothing as well, so the life of the felled creature is well respected.
