Significance of Guru Purnima in India

Guru Purnima is also known as Vyasa Purnima and it takes place on the full moon day during the month of Ashadha. In olden days this day was celebrated and was especially reserved for Guru's Puja and their worship. Their students would offer Puja and pay due respect to their Gurus or guide who were their spiritual mentors. This day is celebrated as birth anniversary of Veda Vyasa.
