Loretta wrote an article about drugs use in college. After a few hours, all the magazines were gone. Not because they were all taken by students, but because the institution didn't want people to read it. Speaking Spanish, she went to Chili to do an intern. On 27 February 2010, she was there to witness the earthquake and the Tsunami that hit the country. She took a lot of pictures and soon realised she was the only Dutch journalist in Chili. This catapulted her career in the Netherlands. At the age of 22, she wrote for every major newspaper about the disaster. She went on to become a documentary maker, was educated in New York and went to Peru as a documentary producer. She headed a project about the women trafficking and discovered that her goal in life was to give people a voice through documentaries. Loretta is half Puerto Rican half Dutch journalist. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
