115 Roman Catholic cardinals have begun the process of electing a new pope. The election of the 266th pope takes place at a time when many say the Church is at one of the most difficult periods in its 2000 year history. Before the vote the cardinals filed into St. Peter's Basilica as choirs chanted the ritual solemn Mass that precedes the conclave.
