Other than the boat owner, the fish mongers are also affected by the raise fees by the management due to the extra charges set by the new management, according to Irina Ali Boting, the representative of the fish mongers that rent fish market spaces from SAFMA. "Previously we only need to pay RM450 for the spaces at the fish market but was raised to RM650 by the new management on 1st December 2013. Other than that they need to pay RM4 each for the fish basket they used at the market," she said. "With the new charges, all the profits will flow to the new management company and nothing left for us to buy food to eat." She said and hope the authority will help and solve their problem to reduce the monthly fees and also especially the basket fees. About 100 fish mongers to be affected by the new charges in which Irina claimed in the beginning was told only 50 allowed to sell fish in SAFMA fish market. The increases will add more competition among the fish mongers that will reduce their profits and sales. According to Irina, at the moment they cannot move the cost to the buyer because the price officer will come to check and compound them. Also due to competition, raising the fish price is not good for business as the customer will choose not to buy fish from them. She also support the suggestion by the PPKNKK to take over the management of the jetty from SAFMA to take care their wellbeing. *** Safirul Nizam Ismail, one of the fish mongers from market in Manggatal said the RM50 an hours parking fees inside the SAFMA compound will cause it difficult for them to earn a living. Alternatively, he said that their lorry can park outside the compound to avoid charges, but usually the parking area are full. He also said that they also being charge fees of RM4 a basket to buy fish from the jetty. This will force them to raise the selling price of the fish to the consumer.
