Shakirah Bourne is a Barbadian writer, owner of freelance writing and editing company, getWrite! and Partner in Caribbean film production company, Let's Do This Filmz. Her first collection of award-winning short stories, In Time of Need, is scheduled to be released in November 2013. Her first feature film, a comedy-drama called PAYDAY, had its world premiere this summer (2013) in Barbados, and her second film, a psychological thriller called Two Smart (writer/co-director) is currently in pre-production. She is a lover of good food and believes that most ails can be cured by sleeping on the beach at least twice a week. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
