(30 Nov 2018) Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who was monitoring the aftermath of the earthquake from Washington, DC on Friday afternoon, said she she's "very worried" but thinks Alaskans are "pretty resilient." Murkowski said she received a phone call about the earthquake from her son who called her from Anchorage. "It's wintertime. It's Alaska. It's dark and it's cold. And so it's going to be difficult to perhaps do some of the necessary repair in the very, very immediate timeframe," said Murkowski. She also confirmed that the 800-mile (1,290-kilometer) long trans-Alaska pipeline said they had shut the system down as a precaution following the earthquake in southcentral Alaska. Meanwhile in Anchorage, several watermain breaks have been reported. Anchorage water and utilitiy officials said they have no reason to think the water is unsafe to drink but residents should boil their water as a precaution.
