BBB: Be wary when donating in wake of a disaster

After Hurricane Harvey, many people want to help storm victims by donating, but beware of who you donate to. The Better Business Bureau has received complaints about some questionable groups collecting donations. The BBB offers some tips on how to ensure your money is going to a legitimate charity. "Steer clear of any high pressure sales tactics, or maybe they're trying to target your heart strings just a little too much," said Kelly Trevino with the Better Business Bureau. "If you have an uneasy feeling about the money you're giving to somebody, then you need to use that gut instinct and really be careful. Maybe tell them you need to do some more research before you give to them." Trevino says that groups that only accept cash, or are hesitant to have a paper trail, should raise a red flag. If you do make a donation in cash, be sure to get a receipt.
