Private rice dealers can now import rice stocks beyond minimum access volume. According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, the National Food Authority Council has implemented the step to counter the soaring prices of rice in the country. It can be recalled that the World Trade Organization or WTO allowed the Philippines to implement the ten-year quota system for rice importation or the minimum access volume of 805,200 metric tons each year.
