Ohio State University has suspended the Buckeyes’ head football coach Urban Meyer for 3 games during the season, along with AD Gene Smith. Following a two-week investigation, the Ohio State board of trustees found Meyer liable in improperly reporting the domestic violence allegations against Zach Smith. Ohio State said in a statement: “They failed to take sufficient management action relating to Zach Smith's misconduct and retained an Assistant Coach who was not performing as an appropriate role model for OSU student-athletes.”

Ohio State football begins the 2018 regular season against Oregon State, followed by games against Rutgers and #16 TCU. Ryan Day will continue to serve as the interim head coach for those games. Meyer had been on paid administrative leave since August 1st following Courtney Smith alleging in a media interview that Meyer and others within the Ohio State football program knew about Zach Smith’s misconduct, but did nothing about it.
