Mozart was probably bipolar - he swung from deep depressions to manic bouts of furious compositional output, and this wasn’t always able to come out in his music as he was often writing at the behest of the tastes of his employers. So Flacubal 95 is an often obsessive and unsubtle exploration with the bare bones of Mozart’s material - it flips from surreal to serene and manic to melancholy. Flacubal 95 is my response to Mozart’s 40th Symphony with the benefit (or curse) of 200 years of additional harmonic language to infuse the statement. It’s Mozart through an upside-down, topsy-turvy filter.
