Onto Sunday, race day! We actually got to qualify this meet, and after starting near last the previous time due to canceled qualifying due to the fog, I took full advantage and managed to secure pole in the XR2s (and out qualify a few of the STs too) by 1.5s!! Very chuffed with this as I knew there was more in the car, ohh and I still had over 50psi in my front 2 tyres after getting new ones fitted! gasp emoticon Race 1, got a pretty good start off the line, managed to get through Duffus even though I couldn't see a thing. Point, shoot and avoid the rain lights LOL. Then going into the hairpin I was caught napping by Steven Gray who launched through a massive puddle up the inside. Jim Deans then took me on the exit round the outside. This is when I started to experience what can only be described as a major misfire! Those who braved to spectate will have heard my thing going round like a 12 gauge shotgun! This then promoted me to the back of the grid. I managed to limp past a car with it still misfiring, then it came back so I was back on the move! Got passed our future BTCC champion without any issues. Safety car came out so I got on the back of Gavin Butterworth & Gary Webster, but as soon as it left the issue came back... So managed to limp home to 3rd in Newcomers/5th in class. Race 2, started a bit further back due to my poor race 1. Sorted the issue though, Dad and me were literally "shocked" to find that the HT lead had worn through..! That got the aul heart rate going anyway! Got a good start again! Pulled away from the No.1 in the newcomers, down Duffus on the inside and I managed to get passed Gavin Butterworth & Gary Webster into Butchers which put me into 1st in Newcomers. After this I pretty much got stalled behind Steven Ward in his ST as he had the extra power up the straights, but didn't have the speed in the corners. All this time I was watching Steven Gray & Jim Deans tripping over eachothers heels infront, which was frustrating to say the least!! Then the safety car came out which we finished under, which was a big disappointment to the race not gonna lie, but at the end of the day I took home some silverware for 1st in Newcomers, and got 3rd in class. Overall I am happy with the weekend! Made some major progress after our 2x DNFs last meet.
