When it comes to “B” words - Bossy = Bitchy = Backlash, women and girls have been told to avoid them to ensure liking and respect. In fact, Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook and Founder of the Lean In Movement suggests that “If we want girls to receive positive reinforcement for early acts of leadership, let's discourage bossy behavior along with banning bossy labels. That means teaching girls to engage in behaviors that earn admiration before they assert their authority.” This talk focuses on new findings that tell us this advice is neither helpful or productive and that you won’t be a Boss-She unless you’re willing and proud to be Bossy! Robin Pinkley, Ph.D. is the Duchossois Endowed Professor of Management & Organizations, Cox School, Southern Methodist University, founder of the M2M Center for Profitable Negotiation, and creator of the Gain-Gain Approach to Effective Negotiation. She has worked with companies and government organizations in 10 countries and is frequently quoted in the press. She is also the proud mother of two adult children and grandmother of one. She’s been bossy since the day she was born and continues to be so everyday of her life. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
