Please join the Atlantic Council for the launch of our report, Democratic Defense Against Disinformation on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Atlantic Council Headquarters (1030 15th Street NW, 12th Floor, West Tower Elevators).

During the 2016 US presidential election, the Russian government ran disinformation campaigns that targeted news agencies, social media websites, advertisements, and other sources of public information in the United States. Since then, governments, multinational institutions, civil-society groups, and the private sector have launched various initiatives to expose, monitor, and get ahead of disinformation attacks. On February 16, 2018, the US Department of Justice indicted thirteen Russian actors for their work in interfering with the 2016 election. As the speed and efficiency of influence operations increase, democratic societies need to invest in resilience and resistance to win the new information war.

The Council’s Eurasia Center has been working on issues related to Russian disinformation since 2015. The report, which is authored by Ambassador Daniel Fried, distinguished fellow with the Eurasia Center, and Dr. Alina Polyakova, fellow with the Brookings Institution, calls for innovative, transatlantic policy solutions in the United States and Europe to address the global threat of disinformation.
