Being that this thing runs on batteries, that doesn't work at Jay's Bar. After "last call", I'm in no condition to go and remember to turn things off. While this unit allegedly has a 4 hour auto-shutoff, I'm sure it'll burn through batteries quickly, so I needed a way to run it from a separate power source. 5V is the closest voltage I'd have "on hand", and since the unit runs off 2 AA batteries (3V), that's not going to work. I have no formal training in electronics, but happened to have a few resistors laying around (my last ones at the moment), and after lots of testing beforehand, decided the tests were inconclusive, so I'll try it and if it blows up, it blows up.

I was originally going to mount this close to a computer, which can supply 5VDC through USB, but I'll actually end up running it off a separate 5V transformer as I am going to mount it elsewhere.
