(9 Nov 2018) Evacuated residents of Thousand Oaks are dealing with destructive wildfires just days after the community was rocked by a mass shooting. The Southern California wildfires have triggered mandatory evacuation order for Thousand Oaks and several neighboring communities including the beachside city of Malibu. The Los Angeles and Ventura County fire departments say multiple buildings have been destroyed or damage, but exact numbers are not yet available. The flames are being driven by Southern California's notorious Santa Ana winds, which blow from the northeast toward the coast. Many local schools and universities cancelled classes Friday. California Lutheran University had already canceled classes due to Wednesday night's mass shooting which left 13 dead including the shooter. The gunman opened fire on a crowd at a country dance bar holding a weekly "college night." Evacuated residents say they're still dealing with the shock of the shooting while also wondering if their homes are still standing. Some are staying at a Red Cross evacuation shelter at the Thousand Oaks Teen Center which just days earlier was used as a reunification center where shooting victims' friends and family learned their loved ones were dead.
