Economic empowerment and political participation of rural women are two mutually supportive foundation stones for more food-secure and gender-equal rural societies, but also for stronger societies for all. FAO, IFAD, WFP and UN Women are joining forces to bring about a more comprehensive UN system response to rural women's needs and aspirations. Through the Joint Programme on "Accelerating Progress toward the Economic Empowerment of Rural Women" they will demonstrate how UN agencies can work together more effectively and 'Deliver as One', by capitalizing on each agency's mandate, comparative advantage and institutional strength. This launch event gathered high-level officials from Member States, the UN System and the private sector, together with rural women's leaders, representatives of civil society organizations, and members of the media and academia.
