Welcome to "Guitar Technique" episode 017... It is important to first state that the Rake technique is  the technique that generally falls into place much easier on the guitar. However, what you learn through the skills of Rake Picking is also 50% of what’s involved with performing Sweep Picking. The only thing is that to perform Sweep Picking, the tough part will be the movement back across descending through the strings. You’ll need a lot of control in order to have the pick sweep backwards and to do it smoothly. Whether you’re doing Rakes or Sweeps, the goal is to be able to generate a clean and a clear tone off of each note. Remember that we’re not playing the tones so they ring out like a chord. We want the notes to leave an individual impression, (even though we’re moving across them very quickly).
