We wanted to go to the old Greenwich Observatory, and the tube is long and boring. So we went by river. Thanks to Thames Clippers for providing the service. It isn't a guided tour, but hey, I'll give you a rundown as we go here. The first boat you see is another company that uses the various piers up and down the Thames. Then the clipper comes along. 1:25, look how luxurious it is in there, plenty of room inside so bad weather isn't a problem. 2:02 So we set off from Embankment pier, so a quick whizz under hungerford Bridge to turn around, giving a nice view of Westminster Palaces Clock Tower, otherwise called Big Ben, and Westminster Bridge. Turning arounf to face, The London Eye (2:40) Docking to pickup/drop off at Waterloo Pier at the bas eof the eye before setting off in the proper direction. 3:11 Nice view of the City of London financial district, with "The Gherkin" in the background. 3:28 The OXO tower, original home of the stock cubes. 3:55 As you go under Blackfriars Bridge, note the remains of the old bridge, which still stand, and act as helpful foundations to the existing bridge. 4:30 And the Millenium bridge which links St Pauls Cathedral with the Tate modern gallery in one straight line. 4:44 a little peek at what is to come. 4:53, HMS Belfast with it'S own hero shot. A floating museum open to the public, check it out some time. 5:40 I love this building, Tower Bridge. One heck of a view from the top walkways. Not much to see on the rest of the actual river, so cut straight to the finale, 6:04, the view from Greenwich Park alongside the observatory. Couldn'T have asked for better weather on this day.
