Okaloosa County’s award-winning Youth Services Division undertook multiple projects this holiday season to try to spread cheer to students near and far.
OCSO School Resource Officers took part in their Annual OCSO Angel Tree project to supply gifts to local underprivileged students, but also spearheaded a special “Hoodies for Hope” drive to benefit students of the Bay County School District severely impacted by Hurricane Michael last October. With the cooperation of their schools’ students, staff, and parents, they collected approximately 1000 hoodies and jackets. In addition, they also gathered nearly 500 Coats for Kids as part of the Okaloosa/Walton United Way Coat Drive.
SROs became involved in the Emerald Coast Hospice Tiny Tree project that OCSO staffers take part in each year. They handed out some five dozen trees at local schools to get assistance from staff and students in decorating them. Thanks to all who contributed and a special shout-out to Fort Walton Beach High School, which decorated nearly 40 of the special Christmas trees for local Hospice patients
