On this day in 1940 the Blitz began. The German Luftwaffe bombed London for the 1st of 57 consecutive nights.

Germany makes massed aerial attacks on the defences of London.

Formation of German bombers are sighted, British fighters take off and join issue. Shots of crashed Nazi planes, including one on fire. Spitfires and Hurricanes.
