Chennai: The founder of May 17 movement Thirumurugan Gandhi, while he was returning after filing complaint in United Nation’s Human Rights Commission about the Thoothukudi firing, Sterlite issue and Salem 8-way road was arrested in Bengaluru airport on Thursday.

Reportedly, he was arrested under section 124 (A) based on complaints filed against him in Vepery and Mylapore police stations. Tamil Nadu police arrested him in Bengaluru airport at around 3:45 am.

As many as 13 people were shot dead by the Tamil Nadu police on May 22 in Thoothukudi during the 100th day of protest against Sterlite factory in Thoothukudi. Thamil Nadu government has ordered for closure of the factory.
