Today, 40 years ago struggle icon known for spreading the black consciousness message was murdered by the apartheid security police while incarcerated. Steve Biko was severely beaten, tortured and humiliated while interrogated for 22 hours by the police and had died in a hospital in Pretoria. According to his autopsy he had extensive brain injury among other complications.
