At least eight people were killed in a shooting rampage in Tegucigalpa's Las Torres neighborhood early Saturday morning, which authorities believe may have been related to the rivalry between two of Honduras’ most notorious gangs, Mara 18 and Mara Salvatrucha. The shooting spree took place between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. and stated when seven gunmen in police clothing drove to Tegucigalpa's Las Torres neighborhood in a van escorted by three motorcycles. They forced children to stand against a wall and shot them with AK-47s, before heading to a bar on the next block where they opened fire on those inside, killing several people. The gunmen then fled in an unknown direction. Authorities later found the abandoned van the suspects were driving. Police are offering a reward of 25,000 lempiras, or $1,180, for information on those involved in the shooting.
