"Dawn, a young doctor who takes in hospice patients, befriends an elderly drifter who often stayed outside her hospial. He agrees to hospice, but to no further medical care; still, Dawn feels a strong affinity for this man. Her mother shuns any contact with Dawn's patients, fearing contagion; but when the drifter's condition worsens, Dawn insists she help. Her mother then recognises this man as Dawn's father, who had abandoned his family-- he'd sought Dawn out, fearing he had little time left."
