CLOVIS, California - A 16-year-old girl brought a loaded gun to school Friday for "personal protection," Clovis police say.

At around 11:15 a.m., police were notified the gun was brought to a Clovis Unified continuation school, Gateway High School, on Herndon Avenue between Fowler and Sunnyside avenues.

Clovis Police Department Sgt. Jim Munro says the gun was found in the backpack of the student after another student from a different Clovis Unified school tipped the district's police department.
