Matthijs Bierman is managing director of Triodos Bank Netherlands, one of the world's leading sustainable banks (elected Most Sustainable Bank in the World by Financial Times, 2009). Triodos Bank makes money work for positive social, environmental and cultural change. The bank believes that profit doesn't need to be at the expense of the world's most pressing environmental problems.

Bierman worked in Botswana, Africa as advisor in development cooperation, prior to joining Triodos Bank in 1997. After having worked for Triodos Bank in the UK branch he became managing director in the Netherlands in 2003. Working for a commercial company with a clear and meaningful mission, way beyond mere creating shareholder value, and being able to actively contribute to create a better society is what really drives him.
