This was a song I originally did to poke a little fun of a friend... I had given him a plastic snake staff for a "gag" Christmas present about 10 years ago. After a time, he called to say he was really freaked out, and asked how I had rigged the snake's eyes to glow, and for it to move around at night. Though the snake toy had batteries, he had removed these in an attempt to stop noises and lights that came from the snake without warning at night. Yet he claimed the snake toy would still flash it's eyes some times in the middle of the night while he was watching, and strange scratchy sounds could be heard from around the room when this happened. He also claimed that wherever he left the staff at night, he would find it somewhere else in the house the next day.
I thought he was joking, and wrote this little song to poke fun at him, but after a while I realized he was serious.
The toy continued to do these things and more for 6 full years, and would reappear even if locked away. Then it simply vanished one night.
Now, 10 years later I came across the song again and was playing it and laughing, remembering having written it, and how freaked out my friend had become. While playing the song I heard a rumbling (sounded like an animal in a trash can), and I saw in the shadows of the room a brief image of a snake... The hair on the back of my neck stood straight up. Then there was nothing but a feeling someone was there, but the room was empty.
I thought it would be fun to post the song for you to listen to. It obviously wasn't intended to be a scary song, I was just goofing around when I wrote it. Though oddly, it was a "song that wrote itself" because just about every track was a single take, which is rare for me. Almost like it wanted to be written.
Play it at night, and look into the shadows and tell me what you see...
I fear I may have unleashed an awful power...
