Derek Rankins Jr. is a native of New Orleans. He is the product of the New Orleans Public School System. He currently is a sophomore at Tulane University majoring in Sociology and African and African Diaspora Studies. Currently the Student of Color Co-Convener for Tulane's student organizations Students Organizing Against Racism (SOAR). Also a trainer in training for the People's Institute for Survival and Beyond.In his talk, he discusses change and movement. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
