UPDATE: The Madison County Sheriff's Office has arrested Jonathan Shelton, the driver of the school bus on which a Brush Creek kindergarten student was left during Monday's school day. Shelton has been charged with misdemeanor child abuse. He has been released on a written promise to appear. MADISON COUNTY, N.C. -- Madison County Sheriff's deputies are investigating how a kindergartner was left on the bus all day. It happened Tuesday at Brush Creek Elementary. Superintendent of Madison County Schools Dr. Ron Wilcox says the driver, Jonathan Shelton, has been suspended during this investigation. Dr. Wilcox says Shelton had been working for the school district for about three months. Now he says the school district is making changes. "We're also looking at the safety procedures we have in place to see if there are things we can do to ensure that such an incident never happens again," Dr. Wilcox said. Dr. Wilcox says he has spoken with the parents of that child who were very concerned about how this could have happened. _______________ Follow WLOS on social media: WLOS ABC 13 News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/News13/ WLOS ABC 13 News on Twitter: https://twitter.com/WLOS_13 WLOS ABC 13 News on Instagram: https://instagram.com/wlos_13 Subscribe to WLOS on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/ABC13Channel/?sub_confirmation=1 Listen to AnchorMOMS, the Podcast: https://wlos.com/news/anchormoms/anchormoms-the-podcast Watch more top local news stories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk8Ge6UXHJs&list=PLkVbaoT-aYbIvnEpR0Ct5QQQqYaORUSUH For all of the day’s top local and national news, visit http://www.wlos.com Watch our live newscasts and other live video at https://wlos.com/watch Have a news tip?
