Rinpoche starts by explaining how a bodhisattva cares for every single sentient being like a mother for her only child. If we want to develop such an attitude, we need to correctly follow a virtuous friend. He recalls from the Essential Nectar that all the buddhas manifest their actions in ones guru. So disrespecting the guru becomes disrespecting all the buddhas. Creating such heavy negative karma results in incredible suffering, which is why it is very important to confess any mistakes to the guru quickly and constantly train in seeing the guru as Buddha. On the other hand, if we please the guru, we please all the buddhas, even if do not see him as a Buddha. Rinpoche emphasises the importance of the guru quoting Sakya Pandita and comparing the guru with a magnifying glass and with a wish-granting jewel.
