The main reason for building this was to have a go at making a 3d circuit from craft wire. I was inspired by the work of Peter Vogel whose interactive electronic sculptures blew my mind at an exhibition in Brighton early this year. I'm almost embarrassed to make any comparison with my amateurish effort, but urge you to Google Peter Vogel's work if you like it. My circuit is a simple electronic die based on a 4017 decade counter - resetting after a count of 6 - and with a diode network to encode the LED patterns. The counter is clocked by a 555 running at approximate 1Hz and powered at 4.5v from 3 AAA's. By running the 555 at kHz rates and enabling it with a "throw the die" pushbutton you can generate a "random" value each time the button is released... a proper electronic die!
