Do you want to be notified of the next supernova event? There's an app for that. It's called SNEWS (SuperNova Early Warning System), and it could revolutionize the astronomy community. When a supernova occurs, it sends a blast of neutrinos in all directions. Francis Halzen, a physicist whose primary focus is on the detection of these neutrinos, explains that in the past, it might have taken days for somebody to notice a supernova. But now, astronomers—with the help of neutrino detectors all over the world—can train their telescopes on a supernova as soon as it is detected.
