Rockdale Elementary students to tour 8 colleges during their Spring Break

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - College tours for high school seniors are not unusual, but this story is a bit different.

A busload of elementary school children is touring eight different colleges during their spring break.

At Rockdale Elementary School, 12-year-olds are already thinking about what they want to do with their lives and what to study and where.

The college visits show them their dreams can come true.

On Friday, the children are researching the colleges they will visit next week.

Rockdale Elementary's Principal Belinda Tubbs-Wallace helps them understand college talk. Some students on the college tour have never left Avondale. This trip will expose them to a world beyond their window.

"We are visiting historically black colleges. The goal is for kids to see themselves. cousins, family in their neighborhood, some will visit students from Avondale attending the colleges,” said Principal Tubbs-Wallace.

Little Deborah Woods plans to be “Dr. Woods,” a cardiologist.

Carlos Williams is all about music. He's already thinking about going to Kentucky State. His mother is going on the tour too.

Dreams can be contagious. If you can imagine it… it can happen. That is taught daily at Rockdale elementary.
