In this short tutorial, Joe talks us through how to make a dirty, techy moan-type sound, inspired by Drum and Bass artists such as Noisia, Spor, Ed Rush & Optical, Bad Company, etc. Although this particular tutorial was made using an Access Virus TI2, the principles are transferrable to almost any other hardware or software synth.

Although there are many varitions of this type of sound, hopefully this tutorial will give you some basic ideas on how to start creating your own dark Tech sounds.

Feel free to load up your own synth and give it a try for yourself! Just remember to experiment as well. Whilst following song-making formulas will get you so far and will help increase your musical knowledge, it's important to add your own individual twists, otherwise you will just be churning out music that sounds exactly the same as everyone else's, which isn't good for any scene! Naming no names but we all know producers that recycle the same sounds again and again and again! Do you really want your music to be like this?
