The FY12 base defense budget request is $553 billion. David Berteau, director of the CSIS Defense-Industrial Initiatives Group, compared that number to both the current funding under the continuing resolution of $526 billion and the president?s FY11 request of $549 billion. FY12 is a modest $4 billion increase over the FY11 request. As late as December, DoD expected to have an appropriation act for FY11 at the $538 billion level.
