White House hails latest economic numbers

(2 Nov 2018) President Donald Trump's top economic advisers hailed the job numbers released Friday as evidence the Trump administration's economic plans are working and having an impact. The last major economic report before Tuesday's congressional elections showed that U.S. employers added a stellar 250,000 jobs in October and raised average pay by the most in nearly a decade. At the same time, the unemployment rate remained at a five-decade low of 3.7 percent. The government report pointed to a consistently robust U.S. job market that shows no sign of flagging even with the economy in its 10th year of expansion. Outside the White House, the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, Kevin Hassett, said President Trump is putting people back to work. "Since President Trump was elected, 1.3 million people who were out of the labor force, who were disconnected from work...have reconnected and gotten jobs," he told reporters. Standing next to him, Mick Mulvaney, the director of the Office of Management and Budget pointed to the administration's supply-side economic policies and said, "it's hard to find" any low points in the latest economic report.
