In the Technical overview video http://youtu.be/8QwkC9aMNYU I introduced the Panel Pilot Ace SGD 43-A LCD Control Panel, Now I will present the first of several videos to show you how to interface this display with various real world sensors and outputs i.e. Mechanical Relays, SSRs, Light Dimming through PWM, measuring Volts and Current on a PSU etc. But like any new toy, everyone wants to know what is inside the unit, so to save you from voiding warranties and because I'm curious too, I will tear down mine to show you One of the things you will notice is that all the digital IO and PWM outputs are driven directly from the Free scale CPU, this means 3.3V logic so beware of connecting voltages or loads that will damage the CPU, it will make for a bad day if you need to buy a new panel. The 4 Analog inputs on the other hand are quite impressive, they have a 4 channel programmable gain amplifier in front of the ADC allowing up to +/- 40V to be measured, with the addition of a few jumpers you can also read 4-20mA loops The free to download software also allows you to design impressive UI displays customised to your needs and without having to write a single line of code, this can be downloaded from the Panel Pilot Site for free from here: http://www.panelpilot.com/panelpilot-downloads One great feature of the software is the ability to run an emulator to test your designs and UI without even having the physical unit. Since the technical Overview video where I showed a sample view of the designer, Lascar has released a beta version of their next design software, this seems to add additional standard features to the panel that where not available when I first received them. so I will focus on a demo of this in my next video.
