We all know that summers in India are bad. But imagine living next to an oven from January- July. Imagine if your work involved feeding this oven throughout the grueling months of April to June. There will be no official leaves and the pay just about Rs 3000 a month. That's a slice from the life that a fireman leads while working on a brick kiln in north India. After agriculture, the brick industry is the second biggest employer of manpower in India and in terms of energy -- the third biggest consumer of coal as an industry. In 1993, The Energy and Resources Institute or TERI and Development Alternatives, with the support of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) began an intervention in the Brick industry. A multi-layered story unfolded. The film captures some of that journey.
