Some things I have learnt from listening & watching Steve Stevens: 1. Almost always uses Marshall 'plexi' style amps at extremely loud volumes into Marshall cabinets with 30w speakers 2. Always has a great recording chain; SM57 & Royer 121 mic's into Neve 1073 preamps 3. The 'secret sauce' is in the mid frequencies on the 1073. Use this to mix your guitar sound into the tune - make sure you turn them up until you hear the "sweet spot" 4. Lead sounds almost always have delays & 'widening' effects; sometimes the solo is doubled!
