The National, Abel, live @ First City Festival in Monterey, CA 8/24/2014 We some how made it to this show 3 hours away from Napa, in spite of just surviving the 6.0 earthquake that changed our lives that morning. We had to dig our way out of a completely trashed house (still yellow tagged months later) in the total dark while processing one of the most terrifying experiences either of us had been through. We were in a daze all day (for weeks actually) and considered not going, but decided to not let the earthquake also take away the last chance to see The National again on this tour - plus tickets were expensive to just lose out. Best decision ever. Seeing these guys live again, especially after the backstage thing in Berkeley & then traveling to see them in Bend Oregon, honestly helped the trauma we were in that night & made the year balanced in the best and the worst times.
