After more than 20 years of working with inmates in Minnesota's only maximum security prison. I believe my approach to reaching violent inmates is far from popular with most Correctional Officers, but is highly effective from a rehabilitation standpoint. Eighty percent of these prisoners will be released back into our communities.  We need to begin to treat these prisoners as human beings if we are ever to move forward to a truly more productive and caring society. 
 Martin Heumann earned his A.A. in law enforcement from Century College. He served as a corrections officer at the Minnesota Correctional Facility at Oak Park Heights
from 1997 to 2017, where his work included coordinating the Integrated Conflict Management System, serving
as a debriefer for Critical Incident Stress Management, working as a field training officer, serving in the Mentor and Diversity programs, and instructing new officers. Now a real estate agent with Edina Realty, he lives
