A hike along the Mountains-to-Sea Trail and Woods Mountain Trail in the Grandfather Ranger District of Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina.

This region is the oldest tract of national forest in the East, and has gone largely untouched for nearly a century. Due to the lack of focus on this region many of the old trails are abandoned or unmaintained, and there isn't much information to be found for hiking. Fortunately the Mountains-to-Sea Trail follows Woods Mountain for over 6 miles across this narrow east-west massif. My goal was to hike the full trail out-and-back and check out the summit with the old fire tower ruins. This is a much tougher hike than anticipated, the climbs are long and steep. There are great views of the Armstrong Creek Valley north at the top of Singecat Ridge. Otherwise most of the views are through the trees along this narrow ridge.
