I dreamt a strange dream once. Strange in that I remember it, as I hardly ever have that kind privilege, but also its content was unlike any of them before. Can I confide in you? It was a dream of people who had lived their whole lives in shadows entering the light for the first time. They were scorched, blinded, and burned from the experience, as to them, the light was alien. Their flesh was not made for it, their eyes saw the darkness, and were incapable of seeing in the light, unlike ours. They fled when they experienced the light for the first time, telling tales meant to spread fear to those who hadn't seen the light. To us, they were nothing but shadows, unseen and appearing as nothing but the absence of light, yet they saw us as the absence of darkness. Is that strange? It feels unlikely to mean anything to me, but then why do I remember this dream so much? More importantly, why do I sometimes feel like I could almost relate to them more than I do my own people? I know it is strange, in fact I'm sure I couldn't really comprehend them, yet there is a part of me that sees a vision like this and thinks "I could speak to them. I could take the hand of one of these people, and gently show them that the light isn't that bad. It is scary because it is unknown to them but that's all it is." Yet of course that isn't the case, right? They were burned and scorched by the light, after all, not just scared of it. They can't experience the light without harm coming to them, but I only feel like I know this because I have felt their experience through a dream. The truth is, I have been kind of obsessed with the idea that these people... they might just exist. Maybe unlike me, many have not seen the world through our eyes yet, but they somehow know we exist. How many of them to you think see us, and think "I could speak to them." Same as I do? But the truth it, we are not scorched by shadows, right? We are different, in that we can enter their realm and return, but what if it isn't really the case? I mean, sure, we can move into places where there is no light, where it is dark, but what if that isn't actually what the shadows are? What if there is in fact a real place where shadows are as the light is to us? A place where, in the absence of shadows, light comes? More importantly, what if we are not so different? What if these shadows, from the world of shadows, would harm us if we were to enter it same as the light harms these people of the shadows? I'm not sure what this would look like, but I have a theory. North of here, there are places where the sun rarely shine, and over there, it is so cold that the air would harm you if you went there unprepared. What if that is what the world of shadows is like? A place where the air itself would harm us? There was a lord who came to my wedding not long ago, who came from this northern land. He had a wife and two daughters. One of them I spoke to. Her name was Azure, and her skin was cold to the touch, and she didn't like being touched. She said my fingers were warm enough to hurt her, yet she wore a coat. Well, the insides of her coat were much colder than on the outside! What if... she is one of the people of the shadows? Someone who is harmed by the warmth of the light, even so much that the warmth of our bodies harms her? The world is truly made of thousands of egg shells on top of one another, as Dacalmy once said to me. Artwork for the Video: http://abstract.desktopnexus.com/wallpaper/1621108/, by SophisticatedLady.
