CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A Greenville County man suspected of killing his wife died on Monday. Law enforcement sources said 24-year-old Damien Williams died after shooting himself during a standoff with police on Sunday. The standoff happened just hours after deputies found the body of his wifeVanessa Williams, 30in their home in Greenville County. "It was a shock, because I've seen her walk up and down the alley, when the weather was warm, with a child. I see her going, I wave at her when she goes to work in her car. Never knew anything like that was going on down there," neighbor Lowa Lawrence said. Lawrence said Allen Street became frenzied, when county sheriff's deputies discovered Williams with a gunshot wound to the head around noon on Saturday. But, her husband and their car were nowhere to be found. "From my perspective, up here, all I saw was yellow tape and cars going down the alley and being turned around. So, it was a lot of a spectator type thing, once it got out," Lawrence said. Meanwhile, on Reagan Drive in Charlotte, Damien was held up inside a motel and would end up in a standoff with police once the missing car was spotted Saturday night. Deputies said the standoff finally came to an end with Damien's self-inflicted gunshot wound around 11 a.m. on Sunday. "Eventually, we did find out that there had been a death in the neighborhood. Kind of shocking, because other than kids and young people walking that don't belong here, and cars using the alleys to cut through, we just dont haveit's a quiet neighborhood," Lawrence said. We reached out to Charlotte police for comment on their investigation into the standoff, but did not hear back as of news time. _______________ Follow WLOS on social media: WLOS ABC 13 News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/News13/ WLOS ABC 13 News on Twitter: https://twitter.com/WLOS_13 WLOS ABC 13 News on Instagram: https://instagram.com/wlos_13 Subscribe to WLOS on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/ABC13Channel/?sub_confirmation=1 Listen to AnchorMOMS, the Podcast: https://wlos.com/news/anchormoms/anchormoms-the-podcast Watch more top local news stories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk8Ge6UXHJs&list=PLkVbaoT-aYbIvnEpR0Ct5QQQqYaORUSUH For all of the day’s top local and national news, visit http://www.wlos.com Watch our live newscasts and other live video at https://wlos.com/watch Have a news tip?
