Of course it means shrine hunting and encountering unexpected foes or forces. One example is one of the three sacred dragons, Farrosh. In Hyrule, there are three dragons that move about in Hyrule. We encounter one of them, Farrosh who is a thunder dragon. Striking it with an arrow can net you Farrosh’s scale. That’s needed for a shrine mission we’re doing later. Oh and if you wonder why at the end, I marked the island ahead. Why? Because we’re devoting an entire episode to it.
