This video was created for the final in my Drawing III class.

The idea of the video is somewhat explained in the beginning but I will go over it again for those who want to know more about the meaning :)

The video opens up with three main artists. The first artist is a traditional artist, the second is a painter, and the third is a performance artist. The video is explaining the art projects of these three artist and the struggles they endure in the process. When created an art piece you are constantly critiqued from your peers or teachers telling you what they enjoy and what needs to be fixed. This is very frustrating when you as the artist have your mind set on one way and have to stray from it. The black figure in the video represent the living entity of art, or the presence of an art critic. When you present your art and it isn't received the way you want it to be it is as if the art critic is taking your piece and ripping it up which is portrayed in the video, yet is it really the art critic ripping it up or is it the artist?
The artists look crazed in some scenes portraying the frustration and excitement of creating art. When dead lines are present the only thing an artist can do is wait for inspiration in order to begin or finish a project. The traditional artist working on the 20ft scroll has a war inside herself. She is battling art itself and everything around her telling her what her art should be. In the scene where she is fighting near her 20ft scroll on the wall the art figure picks her up and throws her and when she runs back the figure isn't there but the scroll is and it looks as if she was just battling with herself while creating her art piece. This represents the inner battle of an artist constantly struggling with new ideas.
The performance artist does a great deal of art that I did in my Drawing III class. We tied strings around trees, and I handled balloons and gravity for a project. The performance artists stands in the middle of St. George street and wears a mask while the video is filmed behind her so the movie audience isn't aware she is wearing a mask. At the end the mask is revealed and the reason why everyone was staring at her is known. This idea was taken from The Needle Woman.
The tree on the back of the traditional artist is supposed to show how we actually are consumed art. As we grow as artists our skills become more refined and we grow in our talents. The tree manifests itself at the end when she pushes the art figure as an act of defiance. She has created a masterpiece whether anyone accepts it or not. She has accomplished a goal and can be proud of her accomplishment.
The hands crawling up the painters arms when she slaps her hands down on the canvas shows how art consumed our bodies and becomes apart of us and she tries wiping it off as fast as she can trying to contain herself.
In the end all the artists finish their art pieces and have accomplished their promises to themselves. Creating masterpieces.
