Completed for MUS-K362, Advanced Electronic Music class at Indiana University. "Creation and Destruction" is a study of how music can be broken down and reconstructed. The goal of this piece is to question what creation and destruction means in music, and make the distinctions between music and noise a little hazy. How I made this: I recorded myself playing acoustic guitar with a Zoom H4 field audio recorder. I used Digital Performer and Max Msp to add multiple effects to the original recording. I multitracked many clips each with different effects, each subsequent effect distorting the original even more. I faded between tracks for smooth transitions. Eventually, all that is left is a sine wave, the basic building block of sound. I then used a Korg Triton Le synthesizer to create MIDI data that followed a pattern similar to what the guitar was playing. I used this data first in a sine MIDI patch, and then faded to an acoustic guitar MIDI patch. Finally, I faded the original guitar back. I spent 5 hours today finishing this up. whew! I hope you like it! I was lazy and just used the iTunes visualization to accompany the music. I think it works pretty well. -Adam Check out other electronic music projects I have created!
